Previously
described as "one of South Africa's oldest and leading
white wine estates" Montpellier is being resurrected
to its former glory by owners Adv. Lucas van Tonder and
wine-maker Gerd Theron.
Established in 1714, Montpellier, nestling in the picturesque
Tulbagh valley an hours drive from Cape Town, was the
first Cape Wine Farm to obtain a Superior rating from
the Wine and Spirit Board for their white wine, which
has the unique characteristic of quality and enjoyment
after extended maturation. For 2002 Gerd and Lucas have
the following creations in mind: WHITES: Chenin Blanc,
Weisser Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer. REDS:
Merlot, Pinot Noir.
