Altydgedacht,
dating from 1698, is one of the historic wine, grain and
stock farms established in the Cape. The 405ha estate,
owned by the Parker family for 5 generations, and is situated
only 20km from Cape Town in the Tygerberg Valley near
Durbanville.
Deep soils, varied aspects and cool winds from the nearby
Atlantic Ocean, create ideal conditions for 160ha of noble
cultivars. An unusual combination of old traditions and
modern technology produces consistently interresting wines
including red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz,
Barbera, Merlot and Pinotage and white wines from Gewurtraminer,
Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. These are bottled under
the Altydgedacht label, for local and export markets.
